On Saturday morning, the NFL world was rocked by the tragic death of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins. The outpouring of emotion and sympathy was everywhere. Except for the NFL Network radio show that longtime NFL writer Gil Brandt was on.
Brandt used his platform to take a shot at Haskins and his lifestyle even going so far as to say Haskins “was a guy that was living to be dead.” This was just hours after the news broke that Haskins had been killed.
As expected, a take this tone-deaf was not accepted by social media and later that same day, the 90-year old Brandt took to Twitter to offer this apology.
This morning while learning of Dwayne Haskins’ passing, I reacted carelessly and insensitively on a radio interview. I want to apologize to Mr. Haskins’ family and anyone who heard my poor choice of words. I truly apologize. My heart goes out to his family at this difficult time.
