NFL Trade Rumors: Colts Going 'All-in' to Keep Daniel Jones Long-Term

Daniel Jones is enjoying a career renaissance with the Indianapolis Colts, and it seems like the team is doing everything possible to keep him off the free-agent market.

After years of inconsistency with the New York Giants, Jones has revived his career in Indianapolis. His strong play has the Colts preparing for a massive financial commitment.

Colts Reportedly 'All-In' on Daniel Jones' Future

Jones has the potential to become one of the most coveted players in NFL free agency this offseason. Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Colts are committed to retaining their new franchise leader long term and are prepared to offer him a deal comparable to those recently taken by other top-10 picks.

Fowler said that the Colts are going "all-in" to keep Jones for a long time. To do that, they need to be financially prepared. He referenced deals given to Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, each of whom secured multi-year deals worth close to $100 million after succeeding in new environments.

Jones is Having a Career-best Season

Jones signed a one-year, $14 million contract with Indianapolis during the offseason, a move many viewed as a gamble. However, it didn't take long for him to prove the doubters wrong. He beat out 2023 No. 4 overall pick Anthony Richardson for the starting job and has since led the Colts to an 8-2 record, positioning them among the top contenders in the AFC.

According to Bleacher Report, Jones is completing a career-high 69.9% of his passes for 2,659 yards, 15 touchdowns, and seven interceptions this season. He's also contributed five rushing touchdowns, his highest total since 2022. His improved accuracy, decision-making, and leadership have transformed the Colts into legitimate playoff threats.

Colts' Playoff Push Could End Up Defining His Market Value.

The Indianapolis front office is most definitely in win-now mode. That blockbuster trade for cornerback Sauce Gardner from the New York Jets reinforced their commitment to building a championship-caliber roster around Jones.

Having failed to appear in the playoffs for four consecutive seasons, the Colts are targeting a deep postseason run this year—and Jones' continued excellence could determine just how big his next contract becomes.

The Colts next play the Kansas City Chiefs on Nov. 23, another national stage for Jones to prove he is among the NFL's elite quarterbacks.
