When a bye week comes around in the NFL, most stars use it as a good opportunity to rest and recover while fine tuning play calls for the rest of the season.
However, Tyler Kroft of the San Francisco 49ers has had a rather unusual bye week as he's been rushing around to prepare for the birth of his second child. Kroft moved to the 49ers this season on a one-year deal and is settling into life on the west coast after spending the entirety of his NFL career so far over in the east of the United States.
But Kroft is now preparing for another dramatic change as his wife is expecting to give birth to their second child any day now, following the birth of their daughter in 2020. Kroft spoke to Mirror Sport about his hectic bye week, which certainly hasn't felt like one.
"Life's been good, it's definitely been a little more hectic the last couple of weeks," Kroft explained. "My wife is due to have our second kid this coming week so it's been a little crazy getting everything prepped.
"Certainly hasn't felt like a bye week as we are getting ready to welcome our son to the world." There are certainly worse locations than San Francisco to raise a family, and Kroft has loved his time so far, after leaving the New York Jets to join the 49ers.
"Overall I've loved San Francisco, it's been awesome and you can't beat the weather out here it's great. Obviously the team is playing well and I like how we are positioned for the second half of the season."
The 49ers are currently 4-4 and take on the Los Angeles Chargers in the Sunday night clash for week 10, but they're sitting pretty in the division. The 49ers are 3-0 against sides from the NFC West, but need to step it up elsewhere.
Coach Kyle Shanahan has already claimed that they have as good a chance as anyone this season, and following the addition of Christian McAffrey, they're certainly one to be feared. But Kroft has acknowledged that there's still a lot of football to be played, as he said: "We definitely have out work cut out for us and I know we are all eager to get out for it."
Kroft's wife and young daughter joined him in San Francisco this year, after he had lived over in the east while playing for Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets. Kroft is only on a one-year deal with the 49ers, but has hinted that he'd love to extend that deal.
The tight end is a fan of the location, loves the 49ers and the fans, and even claimed that his daughter is in love with the surrounding area. "Taking my daughter to different parks everyday, she's partying out here she loves it," Kroft explained. "I would definitely be interested in coming back here but it's a business so I'll see how it all plays out."
Kroft still feels like he has a lot of football left to play, and although he's interested in staying put in San Francisco, he's happy to play at whatever organisation fits with his ambitions. Kroft added: "I'll really play anywhere. I've loved it here with the 49ers and my wife and family love it here.
"Ultimately I still think I can play this game at a high level, and when I'm healthy and rolling out there I think that shows. I want to help any way I can on this team."
