NFL legend JJ Watt and his wife Kealia Watt have invested in Premier League-bound Burnley.
Watt and his wife, Kealia, made the announcement on Monday through social media. Having retired from the NFL upon the conclusion of the 2022 season, Watt has decided to invest in Championship winners Burnley ahead of their return to the top flight,
Vincent Kompany's side, run by the American businessman Alan Pace, bounced back into the Premier League at the first time of asking with a whopping 20-point lead over Luton Town in third place. They are ten points clear of Sheffield United in second and have been promotion favourites all season and won the league at the home of their Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers.
Taking to social media, Chelsea supporter Watt said in a video: "Look, I've only been retired for about four months now, but I really need something to do. Anyways, I am officially retiring from retirement, we are going to invest in European football."
In the video, Watt was asked if he wants to be like Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds, replying with a straight 'no'. "We don't have buy an entire European football club kind of money, we are more along the lines of minority investment but massive emotional investment," Watt added.
"So America, allow us to introduce you to Burnley. Buckle-up kids because we are about to go on a little journey called the English football pyramid. Welcome to the Premier League."
Watt has previously spoken about his love for the Blues, who are also under American ownership.
"Once it started to get prominent on TV in America, I started to watch it," he said. "They would show it on Saturdays and it’s the first thing on in the morning.
"I didn't know anything about the teams, the traditions, the history, the rivalries. "But I visited Stamford Bridge and got to see Chelsea play - I got to see [Didier] Drogba's last game as a Blue. I really started to get into it then, started researching, and I fell in love with it."
