Green Bay Packers superstar Aaron Rodgers asked a new team-mate for his thoughts on the 9/11 terrorist attacks during their first conversation, it has been claimed.
DeShone Kizer, who is currently a free agent but was Rodgers' backup after being traded to the Packers from the Cleveland Browns, revealed this week that his first interaction with the legendary quarterback was anything but ordinary.
He explained how he walked into the room to meet Rodgers, and was immediately asked for his opinion on 9/11 and any possible conspiracy theories. However, Kizer insisted that Rodgers isn't a conspiracy theorist, and instead had another reason for the conversation.
Kizer told The Breneman Show : "I get to the facility, I shook hands with him a little while back, but get to the facility, get into the quarterback room, I'm nervous. This guy is the GOAT. This offence is a real west coast offence, I'm trying to be real studious.
"He shut the door and the first thing that came out of Aaron Rodgers' mouth was, 'Do you believe in 9/11?'"
Clearly bemused, Kizer replied: "What? Do I believe in 9/11? Why wouldn't I?". He then explained how Rodgers handled his response, saying: ""He was like, 'You should read up on that.' And then we just start learning up about the playbook, and I was like, 'Wow I don't know where this is going."
However, Kizer insisted that Rodgers isn't a conspiracy theorist, and instead wanted to use the bizarre conversation-starter as a way to engage with the young quarterback. He explained how that first conversation between them opened a dialogue and began their friendship off the field as well as on it.
"What it ended up being was a thought experiment where he wanted me to go back and look into some of the conspiracies around it. We had a lot of great conversation, we bonded over that, started sharing some books, some finance."
Despite becoming friendly with Rodgers, Kizer only lasted a year in Green Bay before being cut by the team. He went on to play for the Oakland Raiders (who became the Las Vegas Raiders during his time with them), as well as the Tennessee Titans. He was released by the Titans in 2021.
