NFL rules on ex-Jaguars CB’s personal conduct violation

The NFL issued an eight-game suspension for former Jacksonville cornerback Chris Claybrooks on Friday, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

But after spending last season on the commissioner’s exempt list while his case was investigated, Claybrooks has been granted time served by the league and is not subject to further punishment. The free-agent cornerback can sign with a team at any time.

Claybrooks was arrested twice on separate charges relating to domestic abuse in 2023.

He was first indicted on misdemeanor domestic assault with bodily injury and vandalism under $1,000 charges in April, which were dropped the next month, per the Florida Times-Union.

Then Claybooks was arrested on misdemeanor domestic battery and felony false imprisonment charges in July, according to ESPN. He pleaded not guilty last August.

The NFL placed Claybrooks on the commissioner’s exempt list two weeks following his not-guilty plea, where he remained for the entire season. The move prohibited Claybrooks from practicing and attending games.

A 2020 seventh-round pick by Jacksonville out of Memphis, Claybrooks made six starts over 46 appearances with the Jaguars and recorded 81 tackles with one for loss, five defended passes and one forced fumble. He averaged 20.6 yards per kickoff return over 22 attempts.
