NFL Power Rankings Week 10: Eagles and Ravens battle for the top spot

The Eagles are soaring into the bye week after an emotional 28-23 win over the Cowboys on Sunday.

Philadelphia is 8-1 and the best team in the AFC, but they’ve been put on notice by an AFC rival and physical foe just down 95 South.

No, the Washington Commanders are not the best team in the NFL, but many experts believe the Baltimore Ravens certainly are.

In the Week 10 version of the NFL’s power rankings, some experts have Baltimore rising over the Birds from Philadelphia.

John Harbaugh’s team dismantled the Seahawks on Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium, returning with a 37-3 win against Pete Carroll’s retooled Seattle squad.

The Ravens are balanced and added another weapon to the recipe, unleashing rookie running back Keaton Mitchell in Week 9. The undrafted rookie ran for 138 yards and one touchdown on nine carries while being responsible for the longest rushing play for a running back this season.

The Eagles made things difficult for themselves down the stretch but still made enough plays to secure a 28-23 win over the Cowboys on Sunday.

All-Pro quarterback Jalen Hurts shook off a hit to his injured left knee, throwing for 207 yards and two touchdowns and running for another score, as Philadelphia became the only 8-1 team in the NFL.

With the Eagles resting and enjoying a week off, here’s an updated version of NFL Power Rankings for Week 10.

Week 9 ranking: 1

Non-QB MVP: WR A.J. Brown

Brown has been one of the league’s most impactful players over the first half. He made history by becoming the first to go for 125-plus receiving yards in six consecutive games. He also set a new team mark for quickest player to 1,000 yards receiving (nine games). “He’s on an unbelievable historic tear right now,” said offensive coordinator Brian Johnson, “and it’s a testament to him, who he is as a person, to how serious he is about perfecting his craft and making the most of his opportunities.” — Tim McManus

1. Eagles 8-1 (1)
The “Tush Push” worked for another touchdown in a 28-23 victory against the Cowboys. In addition to his franchise-record 33rd career rushing score, a hobbled Jalen Hurts threw for two touchdowns despite taking a hit directly on his already-injured left knee. The defense made a late-game stand, tackling CeeDee Lamb at the 5-yard line as time ran out.

Up next: Bye

Led by star quarterback Jalen Hurts, there’s a calmness to the Eagles that stands out in close games. Despite trailing 17-14 at halftime with Hurts seemingly hobbled by a lingering knee injury, Philadelphia took control with two straight touchdown drives to open the second half and held on late behind a huge sack from Josh Sweat with 27 seconds left. The Eagles are 5-1 in one-score games this season, and while that’s usually asking for trouble, they’ve proved more than capable of making big plays in big moments.

If Tyreek Hill is an MVP candidate in Miami, then A.J. Brown absolutely should be in that discussion, too. Brown has been on a six-week tear, logging 125-plus receiving yards in every game over that span, adding another two TDs in Sunday’s heroic performance. The Eagles don’t beat the Commanders without the greatness of Brown and Jalen Hurts, both of whom were in peak form. It was once again a rough day in the red zone (Philly went 3-for-5, but lost two fumbles inside the 5-yard line), which has been a lingering issue, and the defense really had few answers for Sam Howell. The Eagles won in spite of those factors. Of course, expecting to do the same in Week 9’s massive showdown with the Cowboys would be foolish.

Philadelphia holds on to the top spot in the Sporting News rankings.

The Eagles were in a classic tough NFC East battle with the Cowboys but their offense struck the right balance and their pass rush and run defense up front saved their secondary. Jalen Hurts and Philadelphia keep flexing as reigning NFC champions.

They beat the Cowboys, but they have to be concerned about their defense. It’s having issues stopping teams. Jalen Hurts is also limited by his knee injury.

2. Eagles (1): The league’s only 8-1 team, and the first to replicate such a start in consecutive seasons since Peyton Manning’s Indianapolis heyday in 2006. But with gimpy QB Jalen Hurts still dragging his leg around, the bye week has arrived at a perfect time – not to mention Philly has Kansas City, Buffalo, San Francisco, Dallas and Seattle in succession on the other side of the break. Though perhaps no worry, Hurts matching Manning’s mark (2008-10) with 12 consecutive regular-season wins against opponents with winning records.
