The Minnesota Vikings were reported to have had discussions about a trade for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance back at the combine. With Lance having been beaten out for the 49ers QB2 job, those speculations are heating back up.
Once that was reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, there were multiple NFL insiders and analysts who linked Lance to the Vikings, including NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
As the #49ers weigh options for Trey Lance, calling his hometown team, the #Vikings (who were a rumored destination before the Draft) makes sense. Nothing is impossible, but MIN has a backup in Nick Mullens and drafted rookie QB in Jaren Hall. Post-draft, these deals are harder.

The Vikings are the team that make the most sense. Have heard from sources with several teams guessed to be interested in a trade who emphatically are not. https://t.co/6Zwusvvbk7

Is this real or just trying to link Lance to a team to continue driving the discussion and content? Right now, nothing the Vikings have done or said link Lance to the organization.
There were discussions at the combine, but that is something that happens about a lot of topics in Indianapolis. If they were to make a move for Lance, there is merit in the idea, but it’s not likely at this point.
Could these insiders know something and that’s why the conversation is being driven? We will find out, but don’t expect anything to happen right away.
