NFL insider: Rams, Packers, Dolphins may try to poach Ejiro Evero from Panthers

With one more head-coaching vacancy still available for Ejiro Evero, there are no guarantees the Carolina Panthers will have their defensive coordinator back for next season. In fact, there are no guarantees that he’ll be back even if he doesn’t get the job.

Sports Illustrated senior NFL reporter Albert Breer just covered the horses on the latest spin around this year’s coaching carousel. Among the candidates he opined on was Evero, who could be drawing interest for other defensive coordinator opportunities.

Breer wrote the following on Saturday:

Dave Canales’s first order of business in Carolina will be figuring out a way to keep defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero. If Evero lands the Seattle job, well, then you tip your cap and wish him luck. If not, making sure Evero—who David Tepper paid handsomely to come to Carolina and work on Frank Reich’s staff last year—is locked in and on board will be important. I’d expect the Los Angeles Rams, Packers and Dolphins would all have a lot of interest in poaching him to fill their coordinator openings.

Two of those three potential sharks swim in some familiar water for Evero. He spent one season as a defensive quality coach for the Packers (2016) and five with the Rams as a safeties coach, secondary coach and passing game coordinator (2017 to 2021).

But for now, the Seahawks—who have now reportedly interviewed Evero twice—remain in play for the coveted 43-year-old.
