NFL insider Albert Breer is hearing praise for New England Patriots rookie Drake Maye, as he continues to develop behind the scenes. The reviews on the quarterback have been positive, and Breer has felt a buzz around the signal-caller.
The North Carolina product made his regular-season debut last Thursday against the New York Jets. He went 4-of-8 passing on the evening for 22 yards. He led the Patriots into the red zone on his one and only drive of the game. While he wasn’t on the field for long, he was on long enough to show off his mobility and arm strength on the drive.
“He’s the real deal, man,” Breer said on “Zolak & Bertrand.” “There’s definitely physical ability there that is going to get the attention of guys in practice. The job they’ve done with him, in sequencing him, and getting him ready to play, I think has been pretty smart.”

It’s only a matter of time for the Patriots to give Maye his first real opportunity as a starter under center.
Perhaps they’ll consider it in the coming weeks with three home games and an international matchup on the horizon.
