NFL: Indoor stadium would ‘greatly’ help Nashville’s chances of hosting Super Bowl

After a report revealed that a $500 million proposal from Governor Bill Lee calls for the Tennessee Titans to have a new indoor stadium, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy revealed that the new venue would “greatly increase” Nashville’s chances of hosting a Super Bowl down the road.

According to Paul Kuharsky, McCarthy also noted how Nashville has already proven itself capable of holding big events after the impressive showing when it hosted the 2019 NFL draft.

“Having a new indoor stadium in Nashville would greatly increase chances for the team and city to be considered to host a Super Bowl,” McCarthy said. “And based on our recent experience with the NFL Draft, we know first-hand that Nashville can put on world-class events with their hospitality, can-do spirit, and support from the residents and business community.”

Lee’s proposal of $500 million in bonds would only cover a portion of the cost of a new stadium, which could see a price tag upwards of $2 billion, therefore an agreement still must be reached on how to cover the rest.

Earlier this month, Titans president and CEO Burke Nihill said the goal is for the new stadium to be opened by 2026, saying the estimate is “aggressive, but we believe it’s in play.”
