Colin Cowherd made an embarrassing gaffe during a segment discussing the Seattle Seahawks’ postseason hopes in 2023 Tuesday.
Cowherd was attempting to make the case that, despite having an elite coach in Pete Carroll and good young players, he couldn’t picture Geno Smith beating the likes of Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes en route to an AFC Championship. The only problem: The Seahawks play in the NFC, not the AFC.
“They’re too young in my opinion to win a Super Bowl, but I do think can win a division and multiple playoff games. I don’t see Geno [Smith] holding up the AFC Championship Game trophy over a Mahomes or a Burrow,” Cowherd said.
Dummy @ColinCowherd doesn't see Geno Smith holding up the AFC championship trophy over Mahomes or Burrow.

(Possibly because he plays for an NFC team) pic.twitter.com/2Hr8nond6d
Naturally, the internet had a field day with the mistake. It has been a rough month for Cowherd, who drew the ire of fans earlier this month for listing the late Dwayne Haskins on a list of current QBs he didn’t believe could win a Super Bowl.
Personally, I like Dak to roll through the AFC! https://t.co/jrnGGUcZQs

How does anyone in the field take this guy seriously at this point? Between his awful takes and not even knowing what teams play in what conference, it’s becoming clear he has no idea what he’s doing https://t.co/VtDjZ3iUTI

how is this even possible, man????

and the fact that Jason also has no clue Geno’s in the NFC West and not the AFC is just embarrassing 😭😭😭😭 https://t.co/p1FqfJFNoT

Give the guy a break. The Seahawks only switched conferences 21 seasons ago https://t.co/4fvqicTdhT
