Michigan running back Blake Corum shocked many fans at the NFL scouting combine over the weekend when he showed up for his bench press.
As the 205-pound Wolverines star went to do his bench reps, fans likely didn’t expect Corum to complete 27 reps, the same amount as Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt, who weighs 116 pounds more than Corum.
To put this number in perspective, the best bench press performance accomplished by a running back in combine history was fullback Tommy Bohanon’s 36 reps back in 2013. The average running back puts up around 20–25 reps.
This wasn’t even Corum’s best documented performance. In March 2023, Michigan posted a video of Corum completing 30 reps during a Wolverines workout.
The NFL posted a video of Corum and Alt doing their bench presses back-to-back so fans could truly see how impressive the Michigan’s performance was. Take a look at the video.
