The NFL has made a pair of things very clear for its players. The NFL and NFLPA have agreed to modifications to their agreement on gambling.
There are very defined and harsh penalties. Two things are clear:
Buy Cardinals Tickets- NFL players are not to bet on NFL games
- NFL players are not to place wagers of any type while at team facilities
The league and players’ association agreed to the following:
Betting on sports while on team and league property now has the following penalties:
- First violation: two-game suspension without pay
- Second violation: six-game suspension without pay
- Third violation: suspension without pay for at least one year
Betting on the NFL has harsher penalties.
- Betting on an NFL game results in a suspension without pay for at least a year.
- Betting on your own team receives at least a two-year suspension.
- Any game fixing will lead to banishment from the league.
This has affected the Arizona Cardinals once.
Safety Josh Shaw, who was on injured reserve and away from the team, placed a bet on an NFL game and received a suspension of at least a year.
The message is clear. Do not bet on the NFL at all and do not gamble while at work.
