NFL Draft preview: Pittsburgh Panthers top prospects

Welcome to the college football season.

We had an exciting week zero which included all three of the prospects that I highlighted from Nebraska having terrible games and playing a huge role in the giant Northwestern upset, but we are back for week one with three more prospects from one school that I will be paying close attention to.

Thursday night at 7:00 PM, the Pittsburgh Panthers will be defending their home turf against the West Virginia Mountaineers. Everyone is eagerly waiting to see what the #17 Pittsburgh Panthers put together after such an electric season in 2021.

They have a few studs on offense that could be great fits in Cleveland as well.

Here are three prospects from Pitt to watch Thursday night:

Carter Warren, OT, 6'5", 320 pounds

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Carter Warren likely would have been an early-round draft pick last season after blocking for first-rounder, Kenny Pickett’s blindside, and being invited to the Senior Bowl, but Warren elected to come back for his COVID season.

He has the experience with 35 starts, the leadership skills as evidenced by his team captain nomination, and the size, and athleticism to be an impact player in the NFL.

Habakkuk Baldonado, DE, 6'5", 255 pounds

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Habakkuk Baldonado earned second-team All-ACC honors last year after tallying nine sacks, but Baldonado accomplished all that with very little technique. Baldonado is a nasty bull rusher and should break out and become a possible early target for the 2023 NFL Draft.

Kedon Slovis, QB, 6'3", 210 pounds

Rob Schumacher-USA TODAY Sports

Kedon Slovis was a madman as a freshman at USC in 2019, but he fell off a cliff since. The hope is that taking over for Kenny Pickett is going to allow him to press the restart button, because Slovis is an interesting prospect with elite accuracy, but has he struggled due to injuries or has he already peaked?

The Browns invested in Deshaun Watson at quarterback but may be in need of a long-term backup option.
