The Detroit Lions got aggressive early on in the NFL Draft.
With their first pick at 6th overall, the Lions traded down with the Arizona Cardinals, acquiring the 12th pick and 34th overall pick. The Lions also gave up the 81st pick and picked up the 168th pick.
The Cardinals acquired the 12th overall pick after an earlier trade with the Houston Texans for the 3rd pick. The Texans drafted Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson, Jr. with that pick.
The Cardinals selected Ohio State offensive tackle Paris Johnson, Jr. with the 6th overall pick.
Following the trade, the Lions will pick multiple times during the draft’s first two days. Their first pick will be at 12th overall, and they’ll pick later in the first round at 18th overall.
In total, the Lions have five picks in the first three rounds. On Friday, the Lions will pick three times in the second round, beginning with the 34th overall pick. The Lions also have the 48th and 55th overall picks.
Following the trade, the Lions have 11 total picks, including two selections in the fifth round.
