NFL DFS Week 8: Spending Up for Some QB-WR Combos

It’s time to set those Week 8 DFS lineups!

I finally feel comfortable spending up for some studs at QB this week. These three passers should return value even at their high salaries. Don’t worry if you choose to spend up to pair them with their top receivers. We will be back tomorrow with some bargains to help you stay under the salary cap.

Let’s get to work!

Quarterbacks

Jalen Hurts, Eagles

Eric Hartline/USA TODAY Sports

Hurts has finished as the QB9 or better in six of seven matchups this season, and there’s no reason to think he won’t finish at the top of the pack again with a matchup vs. the Commanders on tap. Hurts threw for 300-plus yards and a pair of touchdowns when these two teams squared off in Week 4, and this time he will have home-field advantage.

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs

Mahomes is always a top DFS option and this week he gets the Broncos. When these teams faced off in Week 6, Mahomes passed for 300-plus yards and finished as the QB7.

Running Backs

Travis Etienne Jr., Jaguars

Even vs. a tough New Orleans run defense last Thursday, Etienne was productive with two touchdowns. He’s finished out the top nine running backs only twice this season. Meanwhile, the Steelers are allowing the fifth-most rushing yards per game this year.

Alvin Kamara, Saints

It’s bad news for Chris Olave that Derek Carr isn’t on target with his downfield throws the way he used to be, but it’s good news for Kamara, who is seeing an average of nearly 10 targets per game since returning in Week 4. The Colts are allowing 6.41 yards per target and an 81% catch rate to opposing runners while also allowing 93 rushing yards per contest.

Isiah Pacheco, Chiefs

Pacheco has a juicy matchup with the Broncos this week. When these two met in Week 6, he caught all six of his targets for 36 yards in addition to rushing for 62 on the ground. With the Chiefs expected to win by more than a touchdown, game script is also in his favor. Pacheco is tied with Travis Kelce for the team lead with four total touchdowns.

Wide Receivers

A.J. Brown, Eagles

Brown has been a monster since Week 3, with five consecutive weeks of 127 or more receiving yards with three total total touchdowns. Now he gets another matchup with the Commanders, who he burned for 175 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Week 4.

Zay Flowers, Ravens

If you’re rolling with Lamar Jackson this week, I love the salary to pair him with Flowers. Flowers leads all Ravens receivers in targets (54) and receiving yards (442), and the Cardinals have allowed the most yards to opposing wideouts this season.

Kendrick Bourne, Patriots

Eric Canha/USA Today network

Bourne is the WR1 for an offense that seems to be getting back on track. Meanwhile the Dolphins defense has allowed the fifth-most receiving yards to the position.

Rashee Rice, Chiefs

If you’re building a Chiefs stack, the price is still right for Rice who is trending in the right direction. Rice leads all Chiefs receivers in targets (34) and receiving yards (305). Yes, he’s still second to Kelce but the salary is right for the rookie who had his season-best game vs. the Chargers last week, catching five of six targets for 60 yards and a score.

Tight Ends

Travis Kelce, Chiefs

What else is there to say? He’s coming off back-to-back TE1 finishes. He’s Mahomes’s guy, and if Taylor Swift is in attendance, it’s going to be hard to fade him.

Mark Andrews, Ravens

Flowers may lead the Ravens in targets and catches, but Andrews leads the team in touchdown receptions with five. He’s Lamar’s favorite red-zone target.

Darren Waller, Giants

Waller popped up on the injury report on Wednesday, but if he is good to go, I’m giving him a start vs. the Jets, who have allowed a league-worst five touchdowns to the position. It seems that the Giants have finally figured out they need to target their best weapon, as Waller caught seven of eight targets last weekend for 98 yards and a score vs. the Commanders.

Jake Ferguson, Cowboys

Ferguson has the same amount of targets as Tony Pollard this season, but he has more receiving yards and he also has a receiving touchdown. Dak Prescott isn’t passing as deep this season, and Ferguson should be a target this weekend as the Rams are allowing a whopping 9.1 yards per target and 62 receiving yards per game to opposing tight ends.
