The NFL Draft is rapidly approaching and any teams looking to bring in their next top player will be looking to the Scouting Combine for clues.
The Combine is held every February at the Lucas Oil Stadium, the home of the NFL team Indianapolis Colts, offering Draft prospects the chance to showcase their athletic prowess. The first Combine was held in 1985 to avoid the need for teams to hold their own camps and moved permanently to Indianapolis in 1987.
Top college players take part in events such as the 40-Yard Dash, 10-Yard Split, Vertical Jump, Broad Jump, 3-Cone Drill, 20-Yard Shuttle and Bench Press. This year, DJ Turner II recorded the best 40-Yard Dash score with 4.26 seconds registered with the Michigan cornerback only 0.04 seconds behind record holder John Ross' 2017 effort.
Meanwhile Texas Christian University wide receiver Derius Davis clocked in at 1.46 for the 10-Yard Split, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign safety Jartavius Martin managed 44 inches on the Vertical Jump and Kansas State cornerback Julius Brents touched 11' 6" in the Broad Jump. Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba recorded 6.57 seconds in the 3-Cone Drill and 3.93 seconds in the 20-Yard Shuttle, the best performer across both of those drills.
University of Southern California guard Andrew Vorhees managed more reps than anyone else in the Bench Press with 38. The Combine is the final chance for college players to give NFL teams more information on their abilities ahead of the Draft, which begins on April 27 in Kansas City, the home of the reigning Super Bowl champions the Kansas City Chiefs.
The latest NFL Mock Drafts predict C.J. Stroud to be taken by the Carolina Panthers after a trade with the Chicago Bears with the first pick of the Draft. Fellow quarterback Bryce Young is tipped to be the second pick, taken by the Houston Texans.
