The NFC West has been one of the more competitive divisions for some time. Some great teams have come out of the division. Since realignment in 2002, every team in the NFC West has made it to the Super Bowl at least once.
With the San Francisco 49ers beating the Detroit Lions 34-31 in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday to move on to Super Bowl LVIII, it marks the ninth time since realignment that an NFC West team represents the NFC in the Super Bowl.
Let’s look back at previous results.
Super Bowl LVI: Los Angeles Rams
The Rams won the Super Bowl 23-20 over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Super Bowl LIV: San Francisco 49ers
The Niners faced the Chiefs for the first time and lost that game 31-20.
Super Bowl LIII: Los Angeles Rams
The Rams made it to the Super Bowl with Jared Goff at quarterback but lost 13-3 to the Patriots.
Super Bowl XLIX: Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks made it for the second consecutive season but could not repeat as champions, losing 28-24 to the Patriots.
Super Bowl XLVIII: Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks made it for the first time in their back-to-back appearances and blew out the Denver Broncos 43-8.
Super Bowl XLVII: San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers met the Baltimore Ravens but lost 34-31.
Super Bowl XLIII: Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals made it to the Super Bowl against the Pittsburgh Steelers and looked like they would win it before Santonio Holmes famous catch in the end zone to win 27-23.
Super Bowl XL: Seattle Seahawks
For the first time as a member of the NFC West, Seattle made the Super Bowl but lost 21-10 to the Steelers.
