Neymar's stance on PSG transfer exit after brutal discovery opens door to Chelsea

Neymar has reportedly made contact with Chelsea over a potential transfer - after the Brazilian discovered that Paris Saint-Germain are 'happy' for him to leave the Parc des Princes this summer.

The 30-year-old joined the French giants in a world-record £198million transfer back in the summer of 2017 and is committed to the club until 2027 after penning a new deal just 12 months ago. However, speculation that the former Barcelona man could be on the move sooner rather than later has been rife in recent weeks.

A new report from ESPN has now revealed that PSG are open to parting ways with Neymar this summer after securing the future of Kylian Mbappe. It is expected that Christophe Galtier will oversee a squad overhaul once he succeeds Mauricio Pochettino at the helm in Paris, with the new chief expected to place an emphasis on cultivating a strong team ethic in a bid to finally guide PSG to European success.

After discovering PSG would be open to allowing him to move, Neymar is now 'considering' his future in Paris, and Chelsea have been sounded out over a potential move for the attacker. New Blues owner Todd Boehly is thought to be keen to make a blockbuster purchase this summer, and acquiring a player of Neymar's ilk would fit the bill.

Despite making contact with the Blues over a potential move to Stamford Bridge, it remains to be seen if Thomas Tuchel have any appetite to bring Neymar to the Premier League. The German has been given a much bigger say in the club's transfer dealings after the departure of Marina Granovskaia and is keen to snap up Raphinha and Raheem Sterling to bolster his attacking options.

Neymar's agent, Pini Zahavi, is 'working hard' to try and identify other potential destinations for his star client, but Neymar's lavish €43m (£37.3m) gross salary means that, realistically, only a handful of clubs in Europe would be able to afford a deal to take him on.

Neymar has plundered 100 goals in 144 appearances since moving to PSG, but he has been plagued by injuries during his time in the French capital. Neymar was seen as the ideal signing to inspire the club to the Champions League glory that they so desperately crave - but the club have continued to disappoint in Europe.

Even though PSG have dominated domestically since his arrival, Neymar remains determined to land Europe's biggest prize during his time at the club - something he reaffirmed as recently as May.

When asked if he had designs on winning the Champions League again, Neymar told Canal Football Club: "It has to be with Paris. I have a contract with PSG, so there are no other possible choices. Yes it will be with Paris Saint-Germain."
