Grant McCann has emerged as the favourite to take over from Lee Johnson in the Sunderland hotseat.
The former Hull City boss leads the field after ex-Norwich and Preston manager Alex Neil's odds slipped overnight.
The 6-0 defeat to Bolton forced the board at the Stadium of Light into a decision regarding Johnson’s future and he was relieved of his duties.
Initially, Duncan Ferguson was the standalone favourite to take over in the technical area but the possibility of that has now been ruled out.
Newly-appointed Everton head coach Frank Lampard has decided to keep the Scotsman as part of the backroom staff on Merseyside after it originally seemed as though he would be departing.
As a result, Ferguson’s odds have drifted from 4/5 out to 12/1 as well as John Terry’s who was only 3/1 to take over in the North East, he is now 10/1.
McCann led Hull to promotion from League One in 2021, but left the Tigers following the takeover of the club by Turkish businessman Acun Ilıcalı.
Patrick Kisnorbo is new addition to the list. The Australian is currently manager of Melbourne City in the A-League, but he spent much of his playing career in the UK, with Hearts, Leicester City, Leeds United and Ipswich Town.
Next Sunderland manager odds
- Grant McCann 2/1
- Neil Warnock 3/1
- Alex Neil 4/1
- Patrick Kisnorbo 4/1
- Roy Keane 5/1
- John Terry 12/1
Those in charge at Sunderland will, of course, be hoping to make a decision as soon as possible with the visit of Doncaster on Saturday looming large.
There are then just three days until the long trip to Cheltenham on the following Tuesday evening. Both fixtures will be seen as must win in the race for promotion so they will want Johnson’s replacement through the door prior to those games.
