The penultimate stage of a much debated Aigburth road scheme has begun this week.
The third of four phases of work at Lark Lane is now underway after the project was expanded due to the poor state of the road’s sub-surface. Liverpool Council confirmed that the latest stage was in progress following the removal of unpopular orange bollards at the popular South Liverpool location.
They have since been replaced with black bollards along the carriageway. Around 3,000 sqm of road has been resurfaced since the work began with road markings to be laid on the new tarmac as part of the latest scheme.

This latest element of the work will run from Waverley Road to Livingston Avenue, with kerbs being installed along the route. Replacement of patching on the footway will also be undertaken.
The carriageway will also be levelled and flattened during this period of work, with water barriers also to be installed. Work got underway from March 14 for a number of weeks following the extension of the scheme, with road closures in place during that period.
In a tweet, Liverpool Council thanked residents and businesses along the popular stretch for their co-operation throughout the scheme. Contractors Dowhigh Limited have been tasked with the upgrade by the local authority.
ECHO readers have had their say on the scheme, with some branding the siting of new bollards as "mind boggling."
A consultation is being held on the future of the replacement bollards, with the original road furniture introduced almost two years ago as the council looked to facilitate more outdoor hospitality space during the covid pandemic. The bollards came in for criticism among some on Lark Lane, with retailers placing signs in their windows complaining about the installation.
A one-way system was also installed on the lane - famous for its bars, restaurants and independent shops, in a bid to make it more pedestrian-friendly. The fourth and final stage of work will run from Livingstone Avenue to Aigburth Drive.
