Next is closing its only store in Stockport, retail bosses have confirmed. The shop, in the Peel Centre, is set to close its doors in the summer.
Rumours of the store’s closure had been circling on social media in the past few days. Now, a Next spokesperson has confirmed to the Manchester Evening News that the branch will shut for good.
They said: “I can confirm the Stockport Peel store will be closing in June. As it stands we are looking at the closure being the end of June with no specific date set currently.”

The closure means that the nearest store for residents in the borough will be in Denton or Handforth. There are other stores in Manchester city centre, the Spindles Centre in Oldham, and The Quays shopping outlet in Salford.
Shoppers reacted negatively to the news on social media, with one fearing it was ‘another blow for Stockport’. Another shopper added: “Unfortunately another good shop is closing. Most shops/stores are only keeping open their flagship stores.”
Others commented: “It's the only remaining clothing shop in Stockport that has good quality clothing. Sorry for the staff too.” Many more said they were ‘gutted’ at hearing the news.
