One Merseyside town's Christmas markets will be hoping to compete with their noisy neighbours.
Newton-le-Willows' High Street festive markets are set to make a return on December 4, following an absence due to the pandemic. The markets, held annually, offer the chance for people to sample some of the local businesses in a festive setting.
Organised by local committee the High Street Hive, the day will also see the lights switch-on, with events running from midday, and food served until 7pm.

Visitors are urged to walk if they can, due to car park closures in place to make the stalls possible. There will however be free parking in place at the former St Aelred's car park off Cardinal Way, and paid parking at St Peter's- which is expected to be heavily congested.
A statement from the High Street Hive said: "It's our Christmas Market next weekend and there is lot's going on! Sunday, December 4 from 12 midday kick off the Christmas period by supporting your local high street. All along the High Street we will have stalls from the shops, we have market areas at the Pied Bull, Subway, Verona and Oak Tree Car Parks! Side roads Cobden Street and Golborne Street will be closed to traffic during the event and we kindly ask for considerate parking on the day (please consider residents and driveway access).
"St Peters has a pay and display car park and St Helens Council have kindly provided a free Car Park on St Aelred's old site. The markets close at 5pm ready for the big Light Switch on at St Peters Church, with the Pied Bull Food and Drink market staying open a little later until 7pm. It's going to be a great day! We have a fantastic Raffle/Tombola with proceedings going to local charities, Musical entertainment, Food and Drink and Father Christmas is joining us for the day!"
