ALABLAQ can build on a first career success, gained over course and distance 18 days ago, by beating six rivals for the Betway Handicap (4.00) at Lingfield Park.
Dave Evans has started 2022 in top form, and Alablaq added to his trainer’s tally here last time with a defeat of Come On Girl.
Sent off at 11-4 in a field of five, Alablaq, on whom George Downing gives way to Derby hero Adam Kirby, came from the back to lead close home and take the prize by half a length.
That was the son of Lope De Vega’s start, of which four have been on the all-weather, and Alablaq looks capable of staying a head of the British Horseracing Authority assessor after a 2lb nudge up the weights.
