TOTNES deserves the chance to atone for a costly flop at Wolverhampton last month as she takes on seven rivals for the Sky Sports Racing HD 535 Handicap (5.00) at Lingfield on Thursday.
The Andrew Balding trainee is bred to be decent, being a daughter of Kingman and Havant, a Group 3-winning two-year-old for Sir Michael Stoute.
Totnes, who had stepped forward from a debut eighth at Salisbury last September to land a novice stakes at Dunstall Park on her return to action in March, was all the rage for her first foray into handicap company in the West Midlands last time.
At the off, Totnes went off at 5-6 to defy a British Horseracing Authority mark of 71, but could manage just fifth place behind Harlem Nights – a pallid effort for all that she didn’t get the clearest of runs as the race began in earnest.
David Probert’s mount is surely better than that, and, still competing from 71, can prove the point.
At Ayr, CLASSY AL gets the vote to rack up a fourth success on Scotland’s west coast – the Jim Goldie five-year-old has yet to win anywhere else – in the Coronation Bank Holiday Family Raceday Handicap (4.40).
