MAGIC FORCE is expected to reap the benefit of a debut second at Salisbury last month to lift the At The Races App Form Study Restricted Maiden Stakes (3.30) at Lingfield today.
The Andrew Balding-saddled son of Soldier’s Call went off an easy-to-back 10-1 shot against 11 rivals for a five-furlong novice stakes at the Netherhampton course 16 days ago.
And he showed plenty of promise for the future, improving from midfield under 3lb claimer William Carver and staying on with purpose to take the silver medal, beaten three lengths, behind the Archie Watson-trained Reveiller.
Balding’s juveniles usually take a step forward from first to second start and, with the Kingsclere stable approaching Royal Ascot at the top of its game, Magic Force should go one better.
An hour later at the Surrey venue, Worcestershire trainer David Loughnane and rising star son Billy combine with KING OF SPEED, who gets the vote for the At The Races App Form Study Handicap (4.30).
The ground was soft when Acclamation’s son scored by three-quarters of a length from Autumn Flight at Leicester in the middle of last month, but King Of Speed has form on quicker terrain and a 3lb nudge up the weights may not be enough to prevent the follow-up.
