TRAINER Richard Hughes puts blinkers on INCOME for the first time on Wednesday – and that move could pay off handsomely in the five-furlong Southwell Golf Club Handicap at Southwell( 2.20).
The three-year-old won a novice contest over the minimum trip on the all-weather at Lingfield at the beginning of the year and was a good winner of a decent handicap at Newmarket in June.
Last time out, the son of Profitable was runner-up – beaten by just a length by Bang On The Bell – again over five furlongs at Wolverhampton after being short of room, and the fitting of blinkers this afternoon should help make him focus more on the job in hand.
In a weak-looking race, he should take all the beating.
The in-form COCO JACK (6.25, nb) is the pick at Hamilton in the Betting.Bet Live Betting Odds Pro 2-Y-O Series Final Nursery.
The two-year-old, trained by George Scott, has won three times from seven runs this year, including over course and distance. and was a good fourth of 12 to Prairie Falcon in a seven-furlong nursery at Goodwood last month.
However, he didn't quite see out the trip on that occasion and the return to six furlongs this afternoon should be ideal.
As long as he handles the forecast testing ground conditions, this front-running gelding can lead from pillar to post for jockey Ben Curtis.
