‘News to me’: Pakistan’s Babar Azam says he wasn’t consulted about squad cull

  • Pakistan captain Babar Azam admitted he was not consulted by the Pakistan Cricket Board prior to its decision to send seven players home and remove the coaching staff ahead of the third Test against England.
  • Following heavy Test defeats at Headingley and Lord's, the PCB summoned five uncapped players to the squad and placed white-ball coach Mike Hesson in charge for the Edgbaston fixture.
  • Despite losing the series, Babar insisted his side has nothing to lose and called on the newly introduced squad members to seize the opportunity to perform in difficult conditions.
  • Former all-rounder Wasim Akram thanked 14 former international captains for co-signing a petition urging Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to afford fair and humane treatment to Imran Khan.
  • The petition followed a dispute where the PCB reportedly considered refusing to play at Lord's over a broadcast interview with Imran Khan's sons regarding their father's imprisonment.
