Newmains Primary School pupils and staff are bringing the curtain down on the old school building with a host of events.
The school is more than 110-years-old and will be closing its doors for the final time later this year.
Pupils and staff will be hosting a community event on Wednesday, September 21, so locals can take a trip down memory lane featuring photographs and memorabilia from the school’s yester-year.
Headteacher Scott Smith said: “The building has been part of the community for generations .
“We’ve got children here whose parents and grandparents attended the school, so this will be an opportunity for people to come along and enjoy a bit of nostalgia.
“They’ll be lots of pictures from down the years and our school captains will be doing tours around the building.”
The new Newmains and St Brigid’s Community Hub and Family Learning Centre, costing almost £20 million, was given the go ahead back in 2017.
The site will include two primary schools, a family learning centre and community facilities.
The amenities will extend to high quality outdoor and indoor sports facilities, extensive landscaped shared playground for both schools and dedicated outside play space for the Family Learning Centre.
Mr Smith added: “It’s very exciting times and the pupils are really looking forward to seeing the new school.
“There’s excitement but there’s also some sadness there because the building has been such a part of Newmains for so many years.”
The school’s theme for the community night is ‘If These Walls Could Talk’ and the school has been asking people to share their photos and memories of their school days at Newmains with its dedicated email address ifthesewallscouldtalknps@gmail.com.
The community event is being held at the school on September 21 from 6pm to 8pm.
