A newlywed couple say they have been left 'heartbroken' the morning after their wedding as they found that 50 gift cards had vanished. Kayleigh and Ashley Hanrahan tied the knot on October 7 after 10 years and several children together.
The couple, a HGV driver and a stay-at-home mum, said their vows at a lodge near their home before dancing the night away at a golf club in Wigan. The venue at Gathurst Golf Club had been specifically decorated for the big day with the ground floor conference room decked out specifically for the couple.
An events company had also made a special post box so that guests could deposit gift cards containing cash in for the newlyweds. Kayleigh, 29 and Ashley, 31 insist the post box was filled to the brim when they went to bed in the evening, reports the Liverpool Echo.
However, less than 12 hours later the post box was empty and a police investigation is now underway regarding the incident. Kayleigh claims after speaking to friends and family who deposited cards in the box the value of cash inside was over £700.
The bride insists the cash was not the only thing inside the post box that she was disappointed to lose as the sentiment of the cards inside was also a huge loss. The 29-year-old says she is deeply sadden by the fact she may never get to read the messages inside from her nearest and dearest.
Kayleigh said: "We're absolutely heartbroken. We're sad about the money, which is a lot, but it's mostly the sentimental value of the cards which I wanted to keep. We never even got to open and read them.
"We had to contact all our guests to find out exactly how much was missing. It was more than £700. We were the last to leave and the cards were in the box which was tied shut with a sash.
She added that when she came back the next day everything had been moved to another room. Kayleigh said: "Everything else was there, the cake, the bouquet, and all the other gifts, but the post box had gone and there were no cards.
"It's heartbreaking. I just want justice." Greater Manchester Police has confirmed it is investigating the case. Gathurst Golf Club and the events company declined to comment.
Kayleigh's brother has organised a fundraiser so the newlyweds and kids can go on the honeymoon to Wales they had hoped to used the cash for.
