Newcastle have Loris Karius in goal for today’s Carabao Cup Final against Manchester United.
The Magpies are playing in their first final this century, but have to do it without both their first- and second-choice goalkeepers.
Nick Pope last week rather inexplicably handed the ball outside his area against Liverpool to earn a straight red card, while deputy Martin Dubravka is ironically cup-tied having earlier this season represented Man United in the competition while on loan.

Despite spending millions in the transfer market, it means Newcastle turn to the much-maligned Loris Karius to come in for his first competitive game in almost two years. It is the goalkeeper’s first appearance for an English side since his calamitous showing in the 2018 Champions League final for Liverpool, in which he made two costly mistakes as Real Madrid won 3-1.
In positive news, Bruno Guimaraes has served his own suspension for a red card and starts in midfield. Joelinton and Joe Willock are both fit to make the squad, with the Brazilian starting. Callum Wilson leads the line, with Alexander Isak on the bench, though Anthony Gordon is cup-tied.
Starting XI: Karius, Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn, Longstaff, Guimaraes, Joelinton, Almiron, Saint-Maximin, Wilson
Subs: Gillespie, Lascelles, Ritchie, Targett, Isak, Manquillo, Murphy, Willock, Anderson
