Coffee and cocktails - and even some special drink concoctions for dogs - will be on the menu at a new bar in Tynemouth which is out to cater for all tastes as visitors head to the coast this summer.
Atelier, which is inside The Land Of Green Ginger arcade in Front Street, is all set to open its doors and aims to make the most of its location which is just a short walk from Longsands beach and King Edward's Bay. It is, said a spokeswoman, "the perfect place to start or end a day" for those planning a trip to the coast. And that includes dogs.
Atelier is the third cocktail bar for owner Steve Blair who first opened WC in Newcastle - in the former gent's basement public toilets in the Bigg Market - in 2020 just before the pandemic hit. There, undeterred by the unfortunate timing and the months of lockdown that followed, he made the most of its reopening and then pressed ahead with his plans to open a second bar.

The Gin Closet, which launched earlier this year, is a transformation of another former public toilet - this time a ladies' - just around the corner from WC, in High Bridge, and the result is a bar even tinier a space than the first. Now Atelier Tynemouth sees Steve spread his wings still further.
As an artist's impressions show, this is to be another stylish bar but a bigger one, which extends across one unit inside the arcade - a former church - and into a large outdoor area, offering seating in total for around 60 people. And this time coffee is set to be a star of the show.
It will be serving customers a selection of coffee, frappes and coffee cocktails alongside signature cocktails. There even will be 'puppuccinos' on offer for dogs, which means that customers' four-legged friends can indulge in a creamy drink, but non-caffeine, of their own.
Finishing touches are being made and the drinks menu is currently being finalised ahead of the opening which is set to be at the start of July. Watch this space.
