Newcastle ’s latest remarkable transfer rumour involves them being linked with a move for former Chelsea striker Diego Costa.
The Spanish forward has recently had his contract terminated with Atletico Mineiro in Brazil and finds himself as a free agent in the middle of the January transfer window.
And in the aftermath, Costa has found himself being linked with a sensational move to St. James’ Park, with the Magpies prepared to continue flexing their financial muscle this month.
And following the rumours involving the 33-year-old and a Premier League return, former England international goalkeeper Paul Robinson has urged the club to sign the striker.
The Magpies have recently secured the services of Chris Wood from Burnley in a reported £25m deal, but going on to sign Costa would give them an ‘edge’ in their bid for survival this season, according to Robinson.

Costa is known for being quite the handful up front for defenders, with his physical presence and ability to wind up opposition players making him a nightmare to play against.
And his scoring touch isn’t too bad either, with the Spaniard netting 52 goals in 89 Premier League appearances for the Blues as he helped them to win two top flight titles in three seasons at the club.
Despite his age, there is no doubt that Costa could most likely still perform to a high level in England.
The Magpies would be sure to match whatever financial demands the player needs, too, which could give them an advantage should they pursue a move for the striker.
And pundit Robertson feels that a move for Costa is one that they should prioritise given his goalscoring record at the highest level.
Talking to Football Insider, he said: "If I was Newcastle I’d take him tomorrow
“He is a proven goalscorer at the highest level. He has got an edge to him as well. He’s a fighter. That edge could get Newcastle out of trouble.
“Draws are no good for them at the moment. They need to win football matches and Costa is a match-winner. You try to take positives out of the game against Watford but there’s few.
“If you put a character like Diego Costa in that dressing room… Wow. All of a sudden the feeling in that dressing room could change. He’d give them hope.
“I’d take him straight away. The fans would love him up there. He’d be absolutely brilliant.”
Despite plenty of controversy surrounding the 33-year-old during his football career and the way he plays, his winning mentality and experience in the game could be a huge benefit for the Magpies.
Arsenal have also been strongly linked with a move for Costa, while it has been reported that he is keen to link up with one of his former Chelsea teammates in Willian at Brazilian outfit Corinthians.
However, Newcastle’s financial power could prove vital and a remarkable move could see Diego Costa on our TV screens once again, should the Magpies choose to move quickly.
