Newcastle United Women set to play at St James' Park as Amanda Staveley's plan is in motion

It was recently reported that Amanda Staveley had big plans for the development and improvement of Newcastle United Women. The women's team is very much seen as part of the club as a whole, which is what Staveley and her business partners - Jamie Reuben and the Saudi Arabian PIF fund - are determined to turn into a world class operation at all levels.

With that in mind, Newcastle United Women will be playing their first ever game at St James' Park as they face Barnsley on the final day of their season. The game will take place on Sunday 1 May and kick off at 2pm. Tickets will be priced at £3, whilst under-16s and concessions will go free.

This fixture may be seen as the first-step in Staveley 's plan to bring the women's team closer into the fold and create a holistic Newcastle United which can be ambitious. Whilst the men's first-team will be aiming to climb the Premier League table next season, with long-term goals to compete in the upper echelons, the women's team is currently residing in the fourth tier - the FA Women's National League Division One North. There will be ambitions for the women's team to work their way towards the women's super league.

Notably, Manchester City have established themselves as a top side in women's football in recent years. This has been part of the City ownership's overhaul of the club as Arsenal and Chelsea had been dominant in English women's football before the Abu Dhabi owned club began to resource their team further.
