Newcastle United Women's Freya Bailes hoping St James' Park crowd can drive Lady Mags to FA Cup win

Newcastle United Women's defender Freya Bailes hopes Sunday's bumper St James' Park crowd can help "drive" the Lady Magpies on to FA Cup success when they face off against Barnsley Women.

Over 25,000 supporters will be in the stands on Sunday afternoon to watch Becky Langley's side take on Barnsley Women at St James', a figure that trumps last season's attendance of 22,000 that saw the Lady Magpies best Alnwick Town Ladies 4-0.

So big was the attendance last season for the women's St James' Park appearance, the game against Alnwick had to be delayed to cope with the demand, queues and traffic jams ahead of the match.

Last time out in the Women's FA Cup, Newcastle ran out 2-1 winners over Hull City Ladies.

And ahead of their second round tie against Barnsley, lifelong Newcastle supporter Bailes admits she can't wait to run out on to the hallowed turf of St James' on Sunday afternoon.

"I am so excited at the prospect of playing at St. James' Park," Bailes told Newcastle's official club website.

"It was something that has been talked about since I signed in the summer and the fact it's a couple of days away is a bit surreal.

"For me and the girls, it is a moment that will be treasured and I'm excited to have my family come up and share the experience with me having not seen them in four months now.

"I think the performance and feeling of the win against Hull in the last round will help us try to continue to make memories again. There's not really a better occasion than Sunday to do so.

"Fundamentally, our routine and the way we approach the game is the same as always. Regardless of preparations and the occasion, we will look to give everything and represent the values of the club on the pitch just as we would every other week.

"We're looking forward to seeing as many people there as possible to drive us on."

Tickets for Sunday's game against Barnsley, which gets underway at 2pm, are priced at £3 for adults and £1 for concessions when purchased in advance.

They will also be available on the gate, but match day sales are £6 for adults and £2 for concessions. You can book your tickets here.
