Newcastle are going to Wembley and whether they have a ticket or not, tens of thousands of Geordies will be going too. Hotels surrounding the stadium have been booked up by confident fans since the quarter-finals and there were reports that Trainline suffered a surge in demand when the final whistle blew last night.
So if you’re heading down to the capital, at the very least to soak up the atmosphere around the stadium, you’d best get ahead on your planning. Thankfully, London is the most accessible city in the UK and it won’t take you long, or cost you much, to get there.
Some firms may provide dedicated services to take fans from Newcastle right to Wembley’s doorstep. However, expect the announcements on these to be at least a few days away as bosses iron out the creases on those.

Newcastle to Wembley by train
Train tickets are the most in demand, with many of the services that were available last night selling out fairly quickly. What tickets were left over were on sale for around £75 for a single advance ticket and the choice of return journeys was limited.
Further to this, Trainline has updated their website to include news of planned engineering works on the way into London. Whilst services are not cancelled, delays are expected, meaning that fans will want to be on the earliest trains possible to make sure that they make it into the capital with enough time to spare.
However, it’s not all bad news. At the time of writing, six new services have appeared on Trainline for morning trips from Newcastle to London and extra evening return journeys, too. Tickets are not yet on sale and the website currently says 'tickets coming soon'.
The Chronicle has reached out the LNER and Trainline for information on when these will be available.
Newcastle to Wembley by coach
National Express are an official partner of Wembley and in the past, they have scheduled dedicated coach services for specific events. They haven’t announced any yet, but we’ll update fans if and when they do.
Currently, there’s only one service that has seats available on final day that’ll get you into London in time for kick off. The 7.25am coach takes eight hours, will arrive into London Victoria at 3.30pm and costs £14.90 one way.
Returning passengers who don’t wish to stay overnight can take their pick from a handful of services between 11pm and 2.55am back to Newcastle for around £27.
It’ll be an early start for those who head down to London on the Megabus. Services on the morning of the 26th depart Newcastle at 1.15am or 6.05am and cost around £25.
There is a service leaving Newcastle at 10.35am that costs just £13 but doesn’t get into London until 6.10pm and with the journey to Wembley taking an extra 40-50 minutes, it may be cutting it fine.
Newcastle to Wembley by plane
If you’d prefer to get on the ground in London as quick as possible, then there’s no quicker way of getting there than by plane. British Airways flies direct from Newcastle to London Heathrow in just an hour and 30 minutes, but a seat on board will set you back between £245 and £300.
Getting to Wembley
Whether you come by train or coach, once you arrive in London you’ll still have to make your way to Wembley, and it’s a good 40 minutes out on a good day. The nearest Tube station, Wembley Park, is serviced by the jubilee and metropolitan lines.
Travelling from Kings Cross will take half an hour direct via the metropolitan line, while travellers from Victoria should take the Victoria train to Green Park and change for the Jubilee line or switch to the Metropolitan line at Kings Cross. Expect things to take longer though as tens of thousands of other fans will be arriving in the capital too.
