Newcastle United vs Liverpool team news: Anderson handed big chance as Wilson makes the bench

Eddie Howe replaced injured Joe Willock with Geordie youngster Elliot Anderson in midfield in his big selection call of the day.

The Academy product was handed his chance with the Carabao Cup final just around the corner. This was Anderson's first ever Premier League start.

Anderson slotted into midfield with Sean Longstaff and Joelinton for the clash against Liverpool. Allan Saint-Maximin, Alexander Isak and Miguel Almiron were again the front three.

Howe's consistently good back five had Nick Pope between the posts, skipper Kieran Trippier at right-back and Sven Botman and Fabian Schar in the heart of defence while Dan Burn continued at left-back. Striker Callum Wilson was not risked from the start after a hamstring concern.

The Magpies' £45million man Anthony Gordon was only named on the bench while there was a return to the sidelines for Javier Manquillo after injury.
