Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Saturday, March 4.
Botman rejects new offer
Italian outlet Calciomercato claims Sven Botman has rejected a fresh approach from Newcastle.
The 6ft 5in centre-back was the Magpies’ number one target in January but Lille president Olivier Letang refused to sell his prize asset, citing the club’s Champions League hopes.
However, new reports suggest Botman prefers a move to AC Milan despite Newcastle climbing clear of the relegation zone.
This is a direct contradiction to Amanda Staveley’s comments in The Athletic last week, which claimed Botman is keen on joining the Saudi-led revolution.
Fulham Targett Toon loanee
Fulham are keeping tabs on Matt Targett’s future ahead of a likely return to the Premier League.
The Cottagers are nine points clear at the top of the Championship and look nailed on to make a return to the top flight.
Former Watford and Everton boss Marco Silva - currently at the helm at Craven Cottage - is reportedly keen on Toon loanee Targett, according to Football League World.
A move to make the 26-year-old’s stay at Newcastle would prove popular with supporters as the left-back has slotted in seemingly since his short-term switch from Aston Villa.
Ex-Black Cat to cross the divide?
Former Sunderland defender Jason Denayer - linked with a move to Newcastle - has left the door open for a move this summer.
The 26-year-old had a brief loan stint on Wearside during their Premier League relegation season in 2016/17.
Then on the books at Man City, he was shipped out to French giants Lyon in 2018 and has come of age since, maturing into a solid, European-level defender.
His agent told Jesse de Preter told Belgian outlet Derniere Heure that his next decision will be a ‘sporting’ one.
“Jason remains open to an extension,” he said.
“He is in a comfortable situation and has the luxury of being able to weigh the pros and cons in order to make the right decision.
“His ambition is to play in a Champions League final. Not a dream, an ambition.
“He is entering the best four or five years of his career and wants to make a purely sporting choice.”
