Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Saturday, June 25.
Botman alternative
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo have named Mario Hermoso as a potential Sven Botman alternative. Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone benched the centre-back towards the backend of last season and, with two years left on his contract, could be moved on.
Lille and Newcastle are locked in a stalemate over Botman, with AC Milan also chasing the Dutch U21 star. The transfer saga has not progressed since January and the defender is still enjoying his post-season holiday.
Hermoso has five Spain caps and arrived in Madrid from Espanyol in 2019 for £25million.
Leeds and Toon battle
Another transfer rumour, another centre-back. Goal claim Leeds United are the favourites to pip Newcastle in the race to sign Strasbourg defender Gerzino Nyamsi.
As mentioned, the Magpies have made the heart of defence a priority in the transfer market. Nyamsi only joined the Ligue 1 outfit last summer but managed 15 clean sheets in 35 outings.
A preference to move Elland Road reportedly comes from the player’s representatives, who also manage Whites’ stars Crysencio Summerville, Adam Forshaw and Sam Greenwood.
Diaby ‘not interested’
Sport1 journalist Patrik Berger claims Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby has “no interest” in joining Newcastle. The Frenchman has repeatedly been linked with a move to Tyneside as Eddie Howe looks to bolster his offensive options.
A fee of around £50million was believed to appeal to Leverkusen but Sport1 have rubbished those suggestions. However, the report names Thorgan Hazard as a “plan B” option, who the Magpies could sign for £15million. Borussia Dortmund are keen to offload the winger after an underwhelming campaign in 2021-22.
