A round-up of your Nwcastle United transfer rumours on Friday, 21 January.
'Newcastle 'end Robin Gosens pursuit'
Newcastle United have 'ended discussions' with Robin Gosens in favour of signing teammate Duvan Zapata.
That's according to Corriere Bergamo who claim the Toon have concluded discussions to bring in the wing-back.
The German international was one of the star players at Euro2020 and has been linked with Manchester City and Barcelona in recent season, but a move to Tyneside looks unlikely according to the report.
A hamstring injury would keep Gosens out for the majority of Newcastle's relegation run in and the club are unwilling to risk that.
Eddie Howe's side have set their sights on 30-year-old Zapata for a fee around €40million.
Newcastle return for second Lingard bid
Newcastle United have returned with second bid for Jesse Lingard after Manchester United turned down their first offer.
Sky Sports' Dharmesh Sheth said on the Transfer Show: "Newcastle retain an interest in Jesse Lingard, but it is believed that if Manchester United do allow him to leave this month for Newcastle, they would prefer a permanent deal.
"Lingard has entered the last six months of his deal and this is the last chance they have to receive a fee for him.
"Because he's into the last six months of his contract, he will have more options in the summer. Even if United accept an offer from Newcastle, there's every chance he won't accept it and wait until the summer - with no transfer fee - to see which division Newcastle are in.
"United are less reluctant to do business with West Ham simply because they are direct rivals for the top four."
Newcastle's telling reaction to Sevilla hardball over Diego Carlos after reports on 'fighter'
Newcastle United's owners worked 'tirelessly' to prepare for January, but they have not been getting much sleep during their first transfer window, either.
It is certainly not lost on the hierarchy that what they do in the final 11 days of the window will have a huge bearing on whether Newcastle can defy the odds and stay up.
While it would be a shock if Newcastle had any new signings in place for Saturday's huge game at Leeds, there will still be 51 points up for grabs by the time the window closes so it is crucial the Magpies make further quality additions before February 1.
Atletico Madrid's willingness to respect Kieran Trippier's wishes to return to the north of England and Chris Wood's affordable release clause made those deals a little more straightforward earlier this month, but landing a top centre-back has proved much more difficult.
Top targets Sven Botman and Diego Carlos have both wanted to come but Lille and Sevilla, understandably, have been in no rush to sell unless they receive an offer they simple cannot refuse.
