A look at the latest Newcastle United transfer rumours on Tuesday, April 4.
Everton out to hijack Newcastle approach for transfer guru
Football Insider claims Everton have made a last gasp attempt to hijack Newcastle United’s approach for Southampton's head of youth recruitment. Rice his reportedly a target for Newcastle as they look to improve their youth recruitment.
The report claims the Magpies have submitted an offer for the Saints man, after he handed in his resignation at St. Marys, but Everton are also interested in Rice. He's spent the last two years working for Southampton as a player recruitment manager for their Under 13's to Under 19 sides.
Rice has also worked as an academy recruitment manager at Arsenal and spent eight years at Fulham prior to that.
Newcastle United land blow to Arsenal with backroom staff appointment
Newcastle United are set to appoint Arsenal's Edward Black as their new Academy Lead Scout in another addition to their backroom staff. Black has been Arsenal’s North of England and Scotland Emerging Talent Scout for the last ten months and worked at Norwich City for three years prior to that as their first-team scout for the North East and Scotland.
It's the latest move from Dan Ashworth as he looks to improve the Newcastle academy and is in the midst of overhauling their youth scouting and recruitment. Paul McLaren and Paul Midgley have both joined the club in recent weeks, having worked at Man City together.
The Toon are hoping to transform their academies into one of the best in the country, having seen their Under-21s side struggle in recent seasons. They're currently at the bottom end of Premier League 2 Division 2 after a poor campaign.
