Newcastle United transfer rumours as scout sent to Portugal, Bayern Munich blow

Here are the latest Newcastle United transfer rumours on Sunday, 13 February 2022.

Magpies dealt Tolisso blow

Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso has been linked with a move to Newcastle United but is reportedly in talks over a new deal at the Allianz Arena.

His current contract expires at the end of the season and several Premier League clubs have been claimed to be monitoring him, but it now appears as if he could be staying in Germany.

French outlet L'Equipe have claimed talks are now ongoing and the signing of a new deal would force admirers to fork out a fee for his services.

The news may come as a surprise to many considering a deal was not struck last summer when he had a year remaining on his deal, a time when renewals are commonly addressed.

Scout sent to Portugal

Newcastle United had a scout in attendance for the 2-2 draw between Portuguese giants Porto and Sporting Lisbon on Friday, according to O Jogo.

If the Magpies are on the look out for some fiery talent, they may have hit the jackpot as five red cards were dished out, one of which was given to former Sunderland defender Sebastian Coates.

Sporting midfielder Joao Palhinha has previously been linked with a move to Tyneside and was also one of the red card recipients, although he did not start and entered the fray as a second-half substitute.

Lloyd Kelly attraction explained

Alex Crook of talkSPORT has suggested the versatility of Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly as a reason he may be attractive to Newcastle United.

Kelly, who worked with Magpies boss Eddie Howe when he was in charge of the Cherries, has been linked with a move to Tyneside.

The 23-year-old is a centre-back but can also operate at left-back, something Crook believes could make him attractive as a transfer target.

He told GiveMeSport: "Maybe that’s why Lloyd Kelly would be attractive to them [Newcastle] as well because not only can he play as a centre-back, but he can also play on the left-hand side of the defence."
