Newcastle United transfer rumour round-up as Magpies to battle Chelsea for Juventus star

Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Thursday, March 3.

Another MLS midfielder?

French source Jeunes Footeux claims Newcastle and Everton are battling it out for Montreal Impact midfielder Djordje Mihailovic.

The USA international is in electric form in the MLS - bagging four goals and 16 assists last season - placing a host of European clubs on high alert.

Mihailovic has just over a year left on his current deal so would be available for a modest fee in the summer and, at 23-years-old, has years ahead of him to develop further.

Forgotten man Miguel Almiron famously signed from the States to break Newcastle’s 14-year transfer record in January 2019.

Yo Adrien!

The same outlet names Juventus misfit Adrien Rabiot as a potential Toon target at the end of the campaign.

The Frenchman left PSG after nine years of service to join the Italian giants in 2019 and won the scudetto in his debut season.

However, the Old Lady have lost their grip on Serie A and a major clear-out is expected this summer.

Heading that exodus is expected to be Rabiot who, according to the report, is also attracting interest from Chelsea.

Still only 26-years-old, the midfielder’s arrival would be a statement of intent from the new Saudi-led regime.

Magpies and Man Utd told to pay up

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is reluctant to offload star asset Victor Osimhen and wants to keep the striker in Italy for another season.

The Nigerian has bagged 11 goals in all competitions, with the Blues top of Serie A and on the cusp of winning the league for the first time since 1990.

A red-hot streak in front of goal has reportedly seen Osimhen attract interest from Newcastle and Man Utd, but De Laurentiis is refusing to budge.

He did admit, however, that an offer deemed ‘too good to turn down’ could tempt him to change his mind, according to Area Napoli.

A fee in the region of £100million would likely test their nerve.
