Maddison talk ramps up
Newcastle are ready to pay £45million for James Maddison, according to various reports. ChronicleLive understands two bids for the Leicester City star were rejected last summer but that has not cooled the Magpies’ interest.
Just 18 months left on his contract means the Foxes may consider selling the injured star, who has not played since before the World Cup break. Newcastle’s valuation is reportedly £10million shy of how much Leicester would accept.

Toon chiefs are well aware that Maddison’s price tag will drop drastically this summer. Patient attempts to sign Sven Botman and Anthony Gordon proves Newcastle are prepared to play the long game.
Hammers youngster drops hint
Harrison Ashby has removed all association with West Ham on his social media amid recent links to St James’ Park. The right-back is out of contract in the summer and was linked with a deadline-day move to Newcastle last year.
Eddie Howe’s side have been linked with moves for a young understudy to Kieran Trippier. Earlier this week, Sky Sports reported that the Hammers had rejected an approach from Newcastle for Ashby.
Until today, the 21-year-old, who has earned three under-21 caps for Scotland, proudly donned the Irons’ shirt in his Twitter profile picture.
ASM future in doubt
GiveMeSport reporter Dean Jones does not believe Allan Saint-Maximin features in Howe’s long-term plan on Tyneside. Since his return from a hamstring injury in August, the Frenchman is yet to start a Premier League game.
Gordon’s arrival will only make life more difficult for Saint-Maximin as he fights for his Newcastle future. Jones said: “He hasn’t been starting games. So do they really need this player?
“And also, given the way that Howe is shaping up this team, and conversations I continue to have, I’m not convinced that Saint-Maximin is actually going to be a part of it long-term.”
