Tomasson finished his career as Denmark's all-time top goal scorer with 52 goals, and enjoyed an accomplished career with the likes of Feyenoord and AC Milan.

He spent the 1997-98 season at St James' Park - scoring four goals in 35 outings. Tutto Atalanta have claimed that Arsenal and Newcastle are prepared to spend €50 million to prise the 20-year-old away from Atalanta.

He only joined Atalanta back in the summer and has scored eight goals in 25 appearances during his debut season in Italy. And after Hojlund netted a hat-trick in Denmark's 3-1 win over Finland on Thursday, the national press heaped huge praise on his shoulders.

Danish website CPH Post wrote: “It would appear that Denmark finally has that long-lost number nine: a real goal-getter who’s clinical in the box and can score with his head or toe.

"Really, he’s the type of player who has been missing from the Danish squad probably as far back as Jon Dahl Tomasson.”

Newcastle linked with Khephren Thuram

Newcastle United have reportedly identified Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram as a potential target as they aim to bring in midfield reinforcements.

That is according to 90 Min, who claim that the 21-year-old has attracted vast interest with his performances for Nice this season.

The Magpies have also been linked with Khephren's brother Marcus, who is out of contract at Borussia Monchengladbach at the end of this season.

Khephren Thuram has amassed 39 appearances across all competitions in 2022-23, and has registered two goals and eight assists.

He is a product of AS Monaco's academy and joined Nice on a free transfer in July 2019. The Frenchman made his senior international debut as a late substitute during Les Bleus' 4-0 victory over Netherlands at the Parc des Princes on Friday evening.

The midfielder played three times for Monaco prior to his switch to the Allianz Rivera, and has made 129 appearances in total for the Eaglets.
