Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Thursday, June 30.
Newcastle wanted Vieira
Newcastle “looked at” Arsenal’s new arrival Fabio Vieira before his move to North London, according to The Athletic. Mikel Arteta persuaded Gunners chiefs to splash out £35million on the midfielder following failure to qualify for the Champions League.
Vieira created 14 assists in Portugal last season as Porto coasted to the league title. An attacking midfielder is not thought to be high on the Magpies’ wish list, with Joe Willock and Joelinton interchanging under Eddie Howe last year.
United defeated Arsenal in the race to sign Bruno Guimaraes in January but have chosen to watch on while Vieira became their marquee summer arrival.
Saints youngster monitored
Newcastle are reportedly tracking Southampton wonderkid Tyler Dibling - the 16-year-old talent who bagged a hat-trick at St James’ Park last season. Football Insider claims the Magpies are willing to offer £6,500-a-week to land the forward.
Dibling bagged a hat-trick on Tyneside in April against Newcastle U23s. Despite his tender age, he managed to bag eight goals across U18 and U23 levels in 2021-23.
Dan Ashworth has prioritised the academy setup since becoming sporting director as Toon chiefs aim to bring the Benton base up to scratch with the rest of the Premier League. Dibling has also represented England at U16 level.
Prem trio target Madueke
Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United and Newcastle are competing to sign PSV winger Noni Madueke, reports 90min. An impressive two seasons in the Eredivisie has alerted Premier League clubs to the England U21 international.
Madueke was on the books at Crystal Palace and Spurs before moving to Holland due to a lack of first-team opportunities. Three years on his contract means PSV could command a sizable fee for the 20-year-old, who has been tipped as a future Three Lions star.
