Newcastle United transfer gossip as Sven Botman, Hugo Ekitke and Gareth Bale all feature

Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Saturday, April 16.

Fresh Botman hope

Newcastle remain confident in signing Lille defender Sven Botman, according to Football Insider. Talk of luring the Dutchman - who won the Ligue 1 title last year - to St James’ Park has not waned since an initial January move broke down.

Recent reports suggested AC Milan were in the hot seat for Botman but these new claims go as far as to say personal terms have already been reached with the Magpies. A centre-back is thought to be on Eddie Howe’s wishlist despite the January arrival of Dan Burn.

Ekitike revival?

French outlet But! Football Club reports Newcastle’s interest in Hugo Ekitke as far from over. A late January bid for the 19-year-old - believed to be in the region of £25million - was accepted by Reims, but the youngster opted against a last-minute move to Tyneside.

Ekitke is enjoying a fine breakthrough season in Ligue 1 - bagging nine goals. The piece claims Newcastle are continuing to show interest in the forward and are simply waiting on the go-ahead from the player before making a move.

Battle for Bale

Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur will battle it out to sign superstar forward Gareth Bale. The Real Madrid ace is out of contract this summer and there has been talk of him retiring prematurely.

However, if Wales were to qualify for the World Cup, the 32-year-old will be in search of a new club to stay for November’s finals. Spanish outlet Sport even touted Glasgow giants Rangers as outsiders for his signature when he departs the Bernabeu in June.
