Seagulls enter Nunez race
Brighton are the latest club to show interest in signing Benfica hitman Darwin Nunez, SussexWorld claims. The Uruguayan target man was heavily linked with a £50million move to Newcastle and is also wanted by Man Utd.
The 22-year-old has bagged 25 goals in all competitions this season and the Magpies will be looking to bolster their ranks further ahead of the new campaign. Their newfound financial clout could put them in pole position to land Nunez over other Premier League clubs.
Osimhen to stay put
Newcastle target Victor Osimhen is not expected to leave Napoli this summer, according to Sky Italia. The Nigerian striker has bagged nine goals in Serie A as the Blues challenge for their first league title in over 30 years.
Osimhen’s form has attracted a string of suitors but he is tipped to stay at Naples next season. Reporter Mario Giunta said: “There are many clubs (interested in) the Nigerian, but I feel like giving some news: Osimhen will stay in Naples again next season.
“Aurelio De Laurentiis and Luciano Spalletti are crazy about him and have no intention of getting rid of him. In addition, the former Lille man earns important figures in Campania. He is fine and doesn’t press to go away.”
Interest ‘reignited’ in €40m star
Newcastle are back in the hunt for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes, according to Portuguese outlet Record. The report claims the Magpies have had a previous offer rejected for the 23-year-old.
Nunes, who is born in Brazil but opts to play for Portugal, would command a large fee - believed to be around €40million - due to having a contract until 2026. An interesting side note is that Sporting’s director of football is former Toon player Hugo Viana.
