Newcastle United transfer gossip as Argentina prospect linked, fresh AC Milan challenge

Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Thursday, November 17.

Argentina U20 international linked

South American reports claim Newcastle are targeting Vélez midfielder Maximo Perrone. The 20-year-old - who has played for Argentina under-20s - has burst onto the scene in 2022.

Dan Ashworth has bolstered the academy ranks at St James’ Park since his appointment as sporting director in the summer. Perrone, a defensive midfielder, is valued at £12million and the piece claims negotiations are already underway.

It is reported Newcastle “would be willing” to pay the fee to lure another promising South American to Tyneside.

Milan tug of war, part II?

Foot Mercato are reporting that AC Milan are set to enter another transfer battle with Newcastle. A prolonged saga involving Sven Botman saw the two clubs tussle for the Dutch centre-back.

The Magpies ultimately came out on top but that has not fazed the Italian giants from challenging in the market again. Houssem Aouar, despite being valued at £25million, is available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

A former teammate of Bruno Guimaraes, Aouar has been in and out of the Ligue 1 club’s side in 2022-23. Milan are already in preliminary talks with the 24-year-old while Newcastle decide whether to make a move in January or next summer.

Portuguese prospect

Portuguese outlet O Joga claims Newcastle are weighing up a bid for Braga forward Vitinha. A Portugal under-21 international, the winger has a £26million release clause in his contract.

Current manager, Carlos Carvalhal, backed his player to represent his national side at senior level one day. He said in a recent interview: “He’s very good at attacking space. He finishes spectacularly with his right foot.

“He’s strong with his left foot, and he’s got a lot of ability with his head. If he continues to evolve like this, he can aspire to reach the (Portuguese) national team.”
